"David Vincent Knows..."

"...that the invaders are here,

that they have taken human form..."

"The Invaders" (1967-1968)

It was one of my favorite shows, and I was very little — only four when it first started airing — but I remember it very vividly and understood its meanings very distinctly. My dad believed in government conspiracy and UFOs and so our household was very receptive to this kind of material. And it was an excellent series. "The Invaders" only ran in '67 and '68 and was initially very popular, but I think the controllers felt there was a little too much disclosure in it for middle America and so they axed it after two seasons.

Listen to the into. The whole thing is in the intro:

"The invaders. Alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it their world. David Vincent has seen them. For him it began one lost night on a lonely country road looking for a shortcut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy. Now David Vincent knows that the invaders are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun."

The aliens could be destroyed, though, and they had a tell that only a few knew about: their pinky fingers had a deformity, and this is how they could be identified. I tried very hard not to notice that my own dad had a very weird pinky finger, too. I told myself it was nothing, but I knew he was an alien.

There very definitely is a healthy and sizable sub-culture out there populated with whistleblowers who've been trying for fifty+ years to share truths not unlike David Vincent's. There is soooo much government disclosure layered into the scripts for "The Invaders". It's such a superior show, it was revolutionary for its time, and it still totally delivers.

SELECTIONS

(You can catch the occasional random episode reposted on YouTube from time-to-time — until the copyright czars notice and then they go bye-bye. There seems to be considerable interest in controlling "The Invaders" even fifty+ years after it first aired.)

I've included the first five episodes, and I hope you enjoy them if you have the time [lots of truth in here, folks; still very relevant truth]. It's a totally unique and compelling show and waaaaay ahead of its time. You have to account for the time period, now, but it holds up extremely well. And it tells a story that many believe actually was happening in our government in pretty much that exact same timeframe. [Wink wink.] You'll see.

"The Invaders" star talks the vintage sci-fi series!

Roy Thinnes subsequently starred in the completely engrossing made-for-TV horror-fest from 1973, "The Norliss Tapes". Thinnes plays an investigative reporter who stumbles onto an artist who has made a pact to come back after his death to sculpt a statue of a demon using human blood and clay. Once the demon is awakened he will be granted immortality.
